About this Project

Client: Consolidated Fire District #2
Architect: ArchImages, Inc.
Location: Prairie Village, Kansas
Size: 15,000 square feet

Haren worked with Consolidated Fire District #2 and the City of Prairie Village, Kansas on the new construction of a fire station located at 77th Street and Mission Road. The 15,000 square foot fire station is a single-story slab on grade masonry and steel construction. The roof system is bar joists and pre-engineered metal trusses with plywood and asphalt shingles. The interior includes metal stud framing, drywall, and a steel mezzanine. The building consists of offices, a bunkhouse, kitchen, workout/fitness center, gear storage, lockers, and three apparatus bays.

Construction of the fire station was complicated due to its location behind Mission Road Bible Church. The Haren Superintendent, Gary Lamb, was in constant communication with the church and ensured their parking areas, driveway and neighboring playground were not disrupted by construction. Heavy-duty concrete paving from Mission Road is the access road to the new fire station with fencing and a retaining wall along the sides of the road.

Testimonials:

“Not having any previous experience with such a large and daunting project as building a fire station, my senior staff and I did not really know what to expect. Then we began working with the Haren crew and from that moment on we were thoughtfully led through this project from start to finish. They took the time to educate us and guide us through the many, many decisions that had to be made to keep the project moving forward.

Their communication was excellent as we had emails, group emails, and bi-weekly meetings to keep us all on the same page, so there was never any doubt on where we were with agreed on decisions or plans.

Haren made this project a memorable learning experience that resulted in our beautiful Fire Station 23 that has been the talk of the town and the Fire District!”

“As a captain with Consolidated Fire District 2, it is my pleasure to recommend Haren as a general contractor.

I was a member of our building committee and a Captain at our new Station 23. In addition to being a Captain, I am also responsible for building maintenance and repairs for all CFD2 owned properties. Most of my interaction has been with Superintendent Gary Lamb. He is very responsive, and always ready to discuss any of our concerns or issues. As with any building project, there were a few issues, questions, and changes that arose. Haren made significant efforts to accommodate us.

We are approaching two years from the completion of our build. Haren has still made themselves available for information or to answer questions that have come up. I have Gary Lamb’s cell phone number, which he encouraged me to use if I had any issues or questions. I have called him several times to work through issues or questions, and I do not have difficulty in reaching him in a timely manner.

In summary, Haren are highly competent General Contractors. They listened to our wishes and needs at all levels, worked with us to incorporate aspects that were important to us, and delivered a very nice Fire Station.”
